Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Malaysia's Fifth Prime Minister, Passes Away at IJN



 

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 April 2025 - Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of YABhg Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Malaysia's fifth Prime Minister, who passed away at 7.10 pm today at IJN in Kuala Lumpur.


Tun Abdullah was admitted to IJN yesterday morning after experiencing breathing difficulties. He was immediately placed under intensive care at the Coronary care Unit (CCU), where he was closely monitored by our dedicated team of cardiac specialists. Despite all medical efforts, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.


Fondly known as Pak Lah, Tun Abdullah was a leader who brought calm and compassion to public service. His contributions to the country, especially in fostering unity and good governance, will always be remembered with deep respect and admiration. 


"The entire IJN family is united in grief as we mourn the loss of Tun Abdullah. Caring for him in his final hours was both a privilege and an honour. His humility and grace touched many of our staff, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in eternal peace, Al-Fatehah.." said Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, Chief Executive Officer of IJN.


"Tun Abdullah carried himself with quiet strength and dignity. Even in his final moments, he remained calm and kind. It was truly an honour for our team to be by his side," said Dato' Dr. Azmee Ghazi, his attending Consultant Cardiologist and Head of the Cardiology Department. 


Institut Jantung Negara respectfully extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Tun Abdullah and kindly requests that their privacy be respected during this time of mourning. 


The family and the Government of Malaysia will share funeral arrangements and official announcements in due course.
