Tourism Selangor Supports Earth Hour 2022 to Uphold Nature’s Conservation Efforts in Selangor

Tourism Selangor extends its support towards the global initiative, Earth Hour 2022 which urges everyone to turn off the lights for one hour on March 26, 2022, from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. This initiative is to show our support in combating climate change issues and also our commitment in preserving the Earth. Not only that, Earth Hour is also about spreading awareness on environmental issues in the global and local communities. This international initiative encourages individuals, communities, corporations, and households to jointly-participate in the conservation and preservation of nature for future generations. Thus, Tourism Selangor lists out interesting places in the State which promote environmental preservation and conservation efforts of the flora and fauna as follows.

1.Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands

Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands is an eco-tourism conservation destination in Dengkil, Kuala Langat. It is divided into two zones: educational and recreational. This vast open wetland park features numerous lakes and ponds, including hippopotamus, crocodile pond, ecology, water lily, and fishing ponds. It is also a perfect destination for birdwatching, with over 210 species of birds recorded here. The park also offers accommodation in the form of chalets, hostels, and camp sites. Admission is free but you will need to register at the main entrance prior to entry.

2.Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam

Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam was developed to become the National Scientific Education Centre as well as a natural resource conservation centre for the development of botanical, floricultural and agriculture. Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam also serves as a community awareness centre that aims to create excitement and inspire the ccommunity to appreciate the beauty and benefits of our local plants which are also our national heritage. The entrance fee is RM3 per adult (12 years and above) and RM1 per child (4 to 11 years old).

3.Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

The objective of the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is to conduct research and development efforts, and scientifically-resolve industrial issues in order to meet the current and future needs of tropical forestry. It also generates scientific knowledge for the understanding, management, conservation, and utilization of forest resources. FRIM also raises public awareness about the importance of the environment and forest biodiversity conservation. The admission fee for adult citizen (per person) and children/student (aged 13 years & above) is RM1.00. For non-citizen adults is RM5.00 per person and RM1.00 for children not in their school uniforms. Meanwhile, admission is free for children/students (in school uniform) and OKU or differently-abled visitors.

4.Sungai Dusun Wildlife Reserve

The Sungai Dusun Wildlife Conservation Centre, also known as the Malay Tapir Conservation Centre (MTCC), is an ex-situ breeding facility for wildlife species such as tapirs and porcupines. It is located in Hulu Selangor District. The Conservation Centre is a 4500-hectare area dedicated to the protection and conservation of Sumatran rhinos, a few of which once roamed free in Peninsular Malaysia before being destroyed by encroaching plantation activity or tragically killed by poachers. The centre is equipped with the facilities where researchers and students can study the animals, and visitors can get up close to understand these animals. What's best; the admission is free!

5.Taman Alam Kuala Selangor

Kuala Selangor Nature Park is a preservation and conversation place of flora and fauna. Aside from that, Kuala Selangor Nature reserve which spreads over 290-hectares of coastal land, with a large part of it being mangrove swamps, are divided into two main areas, a 201-hectare wide Tropical Rainforest, while the balance being the Swamp Forest. The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is in charge of the park. Under MNS' management, the natural beauty of the park is preserved without any habitat damages. The entrance fee is RM4 for adult, RM1 for children or student (7–16 years old), RM2 for senior citizen (above 60 years old) and for Malaysian Nature Society's member. While admission is free for kids under 6 years old.

Apart from the places mentioned above, the State of Selangor has many other places that highlight the beauty of nature and the uniqueness of eco-tourism. Efforts to maintain this in the State of Selangor are very important to ensure the continuity of eco and nature tourism, as well as be maintained for future generations to enjoy. Thus, Tourism Selangor supports Earth Hour 2022 initiative in line with the stated vision. "Pusing Selangor Dulu" prudently with emphasis on environmental cleanliness, so that this beauty can be preserved in the best possible way.

To maintain the well-being of the public, tourists are reminded to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Malaysian National Security Council in complying with the National Recovery Plan, such as ensuring social distancing, wearing face mask at all times in public, and a frequent use of the hand sanitizer.
