Sekinchan [Mukhsin]

who does not know Yasmin Ahmad, a Malaysian film director, who directed a series of local films that were loved
by many. Mukhsin is the third
instalment in the ‘Orkid’ trilogy, a
prequel to Sepet and Gubra. The film that emphasizes local society issues and taboos without sugar coating
any on the screen tells a story of Orked, by
Sharifah Aryana, a girl who fell in love with her childhood friend,
Mukhsin. The story took place in
Sekinchan, Selangor; a perfect place that depicts a rural area with comforting vibes. Some parts in
the film also show Orked and Mukhsin playing
traditional games together with their local friends by the paddy field.
The film has won an international
award at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival and became one of the four films by Yasmin Ahmad which were screened at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival.

by a group of friends between

original settlement was a group of Hainan fishermen in the year 1870. Through

as it features wooden homes built over tidal mudflat by the local
community. The film also showcases
Pulau Ketam’s famous produce;

princess, played by Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina Eu Effendi, and a local
warrior played by Datuk M. Nasir,
Hang Tuah before she agreed to marry him. The 15th century village that is featured in the film was
built at Pulau Indah, Klang. Pulau
Indah, which was initially mangrove swamps and fishing village
has become one of the busiest ports
in Malaysia today due to its rapid development. Pulau Indah is also famous
among local anglers. Hence, do not

Hatter’s Castle, Pulau Carey [The Garden of Evening
Mists]
A few scenes in this recently-released in 2019 local movie, The Garden of Evening Mists was filmed at Hatter’s Castle, Pulau Carey, Selangor. The story was set in the year 1940s in Malaya and circulates around a woman who survived Japanese war camp but not her sister. The woman who then wishes to build a garden as a tribute to her sister learns it from a Japanese gardener and then their forbidden love begins. Pulau Carey is shown in the movie through the Hatters Castle, a living quarters for Magnus Gemmel, one of the characters in the film. Hatter’s Castle used to be a hill station during British colonization era that was built in 1920s but now is a guesthouse for Sime Darby Plantation Berhad’s employees. Watching this movie will take you on a virtual-travel to the Hatter’s castle while actually being at home!
